Looking back on my 10 declared majors, countless seminars, job hopping, network marketing experiences, many ideas, and partnerships; I knew I wanted to change the world. This is an ambitious and idealistic thought, but a Good One. Now I’m starting to make a difference in my community while helping others.
Back then I didn’t know what I had to do. I was open to everything. I rarely took jobs that weren’t service oriented (whether public-facing or in-company) and in those instances either quickly worked myself out of a job (in far less time that the company thought it would take), threatened a higher up with the thought that I was trying to steal their position, or circumstances forced me out (the company going out of business, employees stealing my sales, or was laid off due to the industry tanking).
The positions, I was let go from, were small to medium fast growing companies where I got to make outdated systems scalable, had to work with hundreds of people daily to solve problems, AND had the independence to do what I thought would work. I preferred positions that didn’t have fixed duties, and I had free reign to get projects done. These positions made me think for myself, let me be creative, and later recognized me for my accomplishments. Some didn’t pay all that well in the beginning. However, as I showed my capabilities I started receiving more and I could afford to live in a 2 bedroom rental apartment in Santa Monica, had enough to pay for day care and basic needs, AND had some extra to save!
What most people don’t understand is that I LOVE working, I LOVE challenges, and I LOVE helping others! I don’t care about my title (although I have had a few amazing ones). Money is not my motivator. (It’s good to get but it doesn’t wake me in the middle of the night to solve a problem I was pouring over at work.) I don’t want the beautiful corner office. (One of my favorite jobs was a door to door sales person) I LOVE looking back and taking stock of what I have accomplished. (Training sales people was fun! Revamping the whole registration system to accommodate more than 250 attendees was challenging! Designing an automated system to underwrite applicants was entertaining!) I LOVE knowing I made a difference!
Entrepreneurs are the unemployable.
Real estate Bestselling Author Robert Allen also said that the average person “simply doesn’t understand” and that is ok. My job as an entrepreneur is to solve problems while showing others it can be done. The problem that I’m busy solving right now is building up and enriching my community.
I was reading a “comic” strip that someone had posted that really irked me. The basic idea was I’m helpless pity me! I had to comment and in the end stated that I don’t find it funny or that people (especially Americans – sorry I’ve lived here most of my life and this is what I see) feel entitled and just want to wallow in their self pity. It bothered me that someone before me said that it was funny then went on a rant about how people need to trust in god to bring what we need. I’m not putting down any religion; however, I think many people need to get off their behinds and do something. We are taught by the school system, government, and media that we are helpless to make a difference. Choose strength and empowerment!
If we are just to go along for the ride the future looks VERY BLEAK! President Obama, our first black president, has shown people that regardless of skin color anyone can make it into office! I think he has done much in the way of helping this country and our misperceived limitations; but there is still much more that we the people need to decide for ourselves AND have the courage to do something that can make a difference.
Did you (Americans) notice that when the media was going on and on about how our economy was as bad as The Great Depression, people were still driving luxury cars, taking nice vacations and sending their kids to participate in extracurricular activities? I know millions lost their homes and jobs. Sadly a large chunk of those couldn’t find another job or if they did they were underemployed as it couldn’t support their lifestyles. Think of the new college grads competing with seasoned employees for entry level positions. I think one of the first things we as a community need to do is figure out what is truly important and decide to move towards it.
I didn’t know what I wanted to do, but I knew the kind of woman I wanted to be.
Today I work as a Professional Network Marketer who’s main focus is to work with non-profit organizations by implement fundraising initiatives that financially benefit supporters. These initiatives bring added income to local business owners, health professionals, and entrepreneurs. The company brings better products which are cost effective to consumers. Most importantly it leverages the community’s population to build something much bigger! All the while NOT ASKING SUPPORTERS TO REACH INTO THEIR POCKETS TO GIVE MONEY! Can you imagine helping a non-profit by earning money AND saving money while teaching others to do the same?
There are quite a few legitimate network marketing companies that are making a true difference in people’s lives. Are you going to follow the ignorant masses who really have no idea of what network marketing is or are you ready to educate and empower yourself?
This week I’m speaking with a very influential man. He has the power to decide if a couple hundred non-profits in South Florida can utilize this program. Recently I put my WHY into words. I love the fact that as I’m saying my WHY I feel my heart sings! I feel exhilarated and have purpose!
