Hand Up or Hand Out

Video

Do you have an overall end plan?

On Friday last week I attended a very interesting event with David Erickson of the Federal Reserve in San Francisco (author of Investing in What Works for America’s Communities) and Miami Dade County Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava. There was also a panel of 3 local influencers.

I was very moved with the amount of non-profit organizations that are working to make cities livable to the under privileged, unemployed or underemployed. The thing that touched me the most was just how separated and disjointed they felt amongst each other.

The low income housing person for the city was on the panel. He was stating how so many units were developed last year and they see so much more growth.

I was so happy that I got to ask a question. Hand up or Hand out? When for instance low income housing puts people in homes, what is considered successful? Is it when the units are occupied or when an occupant moves out because they got back on their feet? I said a bunch of other things as to what was covered in the presentation and panel discussion and some of what I do to help non-profits. When I finished 4 of the people on stage looked completely lost!

As a business person I look at the overall and my mind starts asking questions as to how to solve the problem. This problem may not be what others (especially the higher ups) think the problem is. David Erickson in his inspiring presentation stated that we must start thinking differently about helping communities. Then someone talked about higher education. What I don’t understand is graduates of higher education are just as unemployed and underemployed as those who didn’t go to college. I think another avenue should be explored. In middle and high school entrepreneurial and personal financial skills should be introduced.

I have a master degree in IT and a bachelor in Business. The companies that I’ve met with in South Florida have told me that they can’t afford me. What is up with that? Thankfully I’ve always been entrepreneurial by nature and was presented with a company which I agreed with and has the benefits of:

  1. Original members of the management team is still VERY Active with the company’s growth
  2. We are a Product Brokerage firm meaning we don’t manufacture products but work with companies that already have successful products and we broker a more superior version of it
  3. In every Billion dollar industry – the versatility was what I love the most
  4. The compensation plan is simple and promotes helping others succeed
  5. Low investment to start
  6. Ease of start up

The distributors of my company (including the top people) have a limit of how much they earn per business unit, so the company will always sustain itself and everyone is equal. Can the company you work with say this? How much is your company’s CEO make? Basically in network marketing YOU ARE THE CEO of YOUR COMPANY!

Many people I talk with about my company have told me that they love their job or they get paid enough. Are you like this? Do you think of the overall? Are you living pay check to pay check? What would you do if your company downsized you? How quickly would you NEED to be back at work before your debts default? Do you feel the stress of living hopefully above pay check to pay check? Do you have the freedom to take a vacation at any time? Do you ever stop to think when I retire will I be able to support myself or will I have to work to still barely make ends meet?

Watch the documentary “Rise of the Entrepreneur.” If you feel you don’t have time to watch this… you are actually the person who needs this the most. Do you have more time for yourself this year compared to last year? Do you see anything changing so that next year you will have more freedom?

I think we should be working with others to raise and support entrepreneurs. Could you imagine a world where people are truly self sufficient and independent of the developed hand outs?

For My Son – a Very Important Ripple

When I think of doing anything I think how does it affect my life and how will it help me be a role model for my son

Growing up I remember my mom’s family told me to travel the world, experience all that I can, and do everything I can before I got married. For the longest time I felt that getting married was life ending. I eloped after dating a really nice guy for 2 years. After a year we moved to Los Angeles and I announced my marriage along with the coming birth of my son.

He came after we had decided to wait for 5 years. I thank the Universe every day for such a Fantastic child. I see my beauty, my strength, my dreams, my goals. I got to hear him talk to his friends when he was in the 3rd grade. He told them how his mom works at home and how she is always able to be there. To him this was the norm.

Later that year I took a job as a door to door “sales person”. I loved what I did, but I worked LONG HOURS! Sometimes I would come home to my little person waiting up for me. I remember one night I scolded him for not being asleep. It took me a shower to realize what I had done… I was scolding my child for wanting to see me and spend time with me!!

I love spending time with him, volunteering at his school, supporting him at swim meets, and watching him in orchestra. I love that he volunteers locally, helps those around him, and takes responsibility for what he has to do and accountability for what he has done. I was pleasantly surprised that he has inherited my love for traveling, public speaking, and helping others. I’ve always told him that my job as a mom is to make sure he grows up to become an upstanding citizen of the planet.

I want to Build a Better Community for my son and I’m happy he wants to help me.

Embracing My Reality

Embracing My Reality

Do you wake up every morning with a spring in your step, eager to face the world? Or were you like me who hated my job, had to bear an 45 minute commute and deal with the office politics, drab ambiance and negative attitudes? I really didn’t like what I was doing as I didn’t feel challenged or like I was making a difference in my community.

I had settled for this reality for too long. I took a leap of faith on network marketing. Losing my way there also. I enjoyed the public speaking, the helping others build extra income, and the talking with random people. What I didn’t like was seeing a person need help but was too afraid to take it, believe that they had “job security”, and think that network marketing was just about retail.

In the past couple weeks I’ve embraced my true purpose in life and reality. I’m a visionary and leader. Eric Worre had taught me in his Insanity Bootcamp that people look at me then my campaign THEN my business opportunity. I love helping others and making a positive difference that can me measured. Thankfully have found a few divisions within my company that allows me to build my community.

Do you know a charity that needs help fundraising? Do you know any non profits that could use extra money? Is your child in school with a PTA or PTSA that is asking you to sell chocolates, wrapping paper or useless nick knacks to have a bigger budget to improve the quality of school life? The NPO division gives non profit organizations the ability to earn royalties without having their supporters pull extra money out of their pockets than what they are already spending!

Do you know a health professional who is struggling? Are you a health professional who is frustrated with your profit margin? Feeling overwhelmed with your insurance, payroll and other monthly costs just to stay open? Do you get questions from your current clientele about supplements and just referred them to the local drug store? The Nutrametrix product line is made specifically for helping licensed health professionals build a strong foundation and promote health to their clientele through education and supplements.

Do you know anyone who is passionate to help others become healthy? Do you know anyone who is overweight and just spinning their wheels in losing weight? TLS product line is made specifically to educate and promote living a healthy lifestyle.

Are you a seasoned employee who is now unemployed? Were you laid off because your job is now being outsourced? Are you a grad coming out of college without a job? Don’t you think it’s time for a change? Some companies have already changing work from hourly pay to salary knowing that the average person will put in 5 – 15 extra hours just to get their work done while not get extra compensation. I think in communities there should be basic skills training to succeed in network marketing as this is where the money is and these skills can be used in other industries. The main business Market America gives people the freedom to be their own boss.

My next posts will go deeper in details for each division and how it can benefit you, someone you know AND your community.
